The webinar explored the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on key aspects of the waste management ecosystem, including the implications of the pandemic on the informal sector as well as the generation and handling of biomedical and plastic wastes. The INOPOL team presented findings from a pilot study titled ‘Plastic and Biomedical Waste Management during the COVID-19 pandemic in Surat and Delhi’ conducted from May-September 2020. In addition, experts from UNEP, CPCB and Kabadiwalla Connect shared perspectives on disaster response, biomedical waste management and the informal sector. The study behind the webinar was widely covered in Indian media, with articles in English and vernacular languages.
