National Stakeholders workshop aligned with the Global Plastic Treaty to discuss The Plastic Life Cycle with industry representatives

Plastics, while being integral to society, have reached unsustainable levels of production and consumption, necessitating global action. In March 2022, the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) adopted a landmark resolution mandating the establishment of an Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) to develop a legally binding instrument for combatting plastic pollution. Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), which has been monitoring the negotiations very closely and organised a national consultation of stakeholders involved in the complete plastic lifecycle. The aim of the workshop was to establish a shared understanding of the issue of plastic pollution by harmonising the interests of industry with the expectations of waste-pickers, and every stakeholder in between. The workshop was actively participated by more than 30 participants across the country includes representatives of Urban Local Bodie, NGO, Industry, Consultants etc to discuss in this matter.
