Pilots were conducted at the Vizag Waste-to-Energy (WtE) Incineration Plant from February 27-29, 2024, operated by Jindal. The plant currently processes 1,200 tons per day (t/d) of waste, generating 16 MW of electricity. During the pilot, three waste mixes were tested: (1) 100% Mixed Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), (2) 50% Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) and 50% Mixed MSW, and (3) 75% RDF and 25% MSW. The MSW originated from Greater Vizag, containing an average of 18% plastic, while the RDF came from legacy dumpsites with an average of 57.5% plastic. The maximum usage rates during the pilot were 50 tons per hour (t/h) for Mixed MSW and 38 t/h for RDF. All emission levels remained within the Emission Limit Values (ELV).
